Heiman Nathan Scheffer was the second child of Salomon Scheffer and Rosetta Victoria Levitus. After completing the Jewish school on the Rapenburgerstraat, he went to work as an overcoat presser. On 4 August 1937 he married Jansje Zwaaf, daughter of Benjamin Zwaaf (a peddler) and Clara Erwteman. The couple lived at 16 President Brandstraat, third floor, in Amsterdam. Their daughter Rosetta Victoria was born there on 17 June 1939.
During the raid in Amsterdam East on 18 November 1942 the family was removed from their home and transferred to Westerbork, where Heiman Nathan Scheffer joined the Ordedienst (OD).
On 18 May 1944 the Scheffers were deported from Westerbork to Theresienstadt and subsequently to Auschwitz on 7 July 1944. Jansje Scheffer-Zwaaf and her daughter Rosetta Victoria were killed there in the gas chamber on 7 July 1944. Heiman Scheffer did forced labour at an aircraft factory in Schwarzheide, an off-site commando of Sachsenhausen.
Copies remain of the birth certificate of Heiman Nathan Scheffer, the marriage certificate of Heiman Nathan Scheffer and Jansje Zwaaf and the birth certificate of Rosetta Victoria Scheffer.
