Andries Godfried

After the death of his father in 1938 Andries Godfried took over the cattle trade and wholesale meat business, which his father started in 1930. He also worked at the slaughterhouse on the Galgenkampsweg in Meppel. Later in the war he was not allowed to do this work any longer because of his Jewish origin. Rachel Godfried-Costers was the widow of the butcher Izaäk Godfried, who had died in 1938. The couple had six children. Rachel Godfried-Costers was taken from her home in Meppel in the night of 2-3 October 1942 and transported to Westerbork. Her daughter Jetje and two children, who survived the war, were living at a different address during the war.
