I was removed from the Gestapo prison in Brussels because the Germans believed that I was still contagious with diphtheria. I was moved to a hospital (an orphanage used as a waystation). We were in Brussels en route from Amsterdam as we fled to Spain, where we were captured. We were delayed in Brussels because I came down with diphtheria. (December -April) Bernhard had Blood poisoning in his neck, and then I got sick

Because I was under 16 (11), I ended up in Linkebeek, Aisch, Belgium (for children under 16 years).

Hans was taking a Mathematics class at a monastery in Brussels and wasn't home when we were arrested. Hans was in hiding until joining the resistance.
