Julius Philipp Spier

Frankfurt, 25 April 1887

Amsterdam, 15 September 1942

Julius Spier worked for 25 years at the metal trading company Beer, Sondheimer & Co in Frankfurt am Main, but stopped with this work in 1927 to dedicate himself fully to 'psychochirology'.
Julius Spier was among other things bank manager and publisher. Inspired by his teacher, the psychologist Carl Gustav Jung, Julius chose to use his natural gift and be a psychochirologist. In 1935 he separated from his non-Jewish wife. His two children stayed with her. In 1939 he emigrated to Amsterdam, where his sister lived. In Amsterdam he got a relationship with Etty Hillesum.
Julius Spier plays a prominent role as 'S.' in the diary of Esther (Etty) Hillesum.
