Cientje Cohen was a daughter of Levie Abraham Cohen and Sophie Canter.

Cientje Spoor-Cohen used the stage name C├ęcile Carelsen. At first she acted with an amateur theatre. In 1893 she made her professional debut in Belgium. From 1900 she acted in the Netherlands but made occasional guest appearances on stage in Belgium. She went on four tours of the Netherlands Indies.
She acted with various companies: Tivoligezelschap (1899-1901), Haarlemsch Tooneel (1903-1906), Hollandsch Toneelgezelschap (1906-1908), Het Toneel (1910-1913), Vereenigd Tooneel (1925-1926), Nederlandsch-Indisch Tooneel (1928-1931), Haagsch Tooneel (1931-1932), De Rotterdammers (1933-1934), Het Vaderlandsch Tooneel (1933-1934), Vereenigd Rotterdamsch-Hofstad Tooneel (1934-1935).

Cientje Cohen's first husband was Jacob de Jong. Later she married Henri Spoor. A daughter from Cientje Cohen also became a well-known actress.
