Heiman Magnus was a member of the Achilles football association in Assen. He played at a football tournament in Groningen in 1937. His name appears with those of seven other Jewish club members killed during World War II on a monument at the sports complex of this association on the Marsdijk.
From Westerbork he wrote to families in Assen. A section from one of his letters reads: 'Pa, Ma and Clara have been deported. I cannot express what that means. We sent everything we had with them. Fortunately, they held up well when they left. As you may have heard, I was scheduled for deportation on Monday morning. Believe me, I will live with my head held high. And I am confident that I will be among you again. So keep courage and faith.'
