Levie Cohen was born in Sambeek (Noord-Brabant). Before the war he and his wife, Henriette Defries lived in Düsseldorf, Germany. In 1939 they fled to the Netherlands and settled in Cuijk where they moved in with Sara Cohen-Susman, a sister-in-law of Levi.
