Henricus Philippus Speelman was a son of Philip Speelman and Duifje van Praag. He had gone into hiding together with his wife and their child, who had been born in 1936, after first dyeing their hair red and getting forged papers. Their child was sent to Apeldoorn, and the couple remained in Amsterdam. First they lived on Uiterwaardenstraat, and later they stayed with a family on Jan Evertsenstraat in the west of the city.
In 1943, Henricus Philippus Speelman and his wife were arrested and deported. His wife survived the camps. Their child survived in hiding.
