Marianne (Janny) van der Ven - Dresden

24-08-1918- 17-01-7-2015

Marianne (Janny) van der Ven, nee Dresden, passed away peacefully, January 17, 2015 in her ninety-seventh year. Janny was the beloved wife of Jack van der Ven (deceased March 11, 2011). She is survived by her loving daughters, Anita (Yvan), Yvonne (Thilo) and Elsje (Peter); her grandchildren Richard, Jennifer and Mathew.
Born in Amsterdam, Janny married Jack in 1942 only to be imprisoned at Kamp Westerbork, a Dutch concentration camp a few months later. Miraculously, they survived 3 arduous years in the Kamp and sadly lost all respective family members. After the war they started to rebuild their lives and started a family. They immigrated to Canada in 1954 with Yvonne and Elsje. Soon Anita joined the family. They settled in Laval West and were proud Canadians.
Janny was industrious and entrepreneurial. When she was young she sang back-up on the radio. Later in life Janny often played the organ by ear. She was a superb seamstress, cook and had an astute business sense. She operated a food truck business before this was fashionable. She was also very creative in shell crafts. She loved to sing and dance and travel. She looked forward to annual winters in Florida.
Always eager to learn, Janny learned to play golf, cards, and computer games later in life. She was a loving devoted wife and the most caring supportive mother.
Everyone who met Janny liked her. She had a warm personality. She was the glue that held the family together. Christmas was one of her most favorite times of the year. She took great delight in distributing a mountain of presents to all especially to her beloved grandchildren.
In her last years Janny received exemplary care at Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatrics Centre. The family wishes to thank the entire team of 4C and recognize the loving care that Janny received from her companions, Pauline, Verona and Oshyane.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Donald Bergen Maimonides, in Janny's name would be greatly appreciated via, www.donaldbermanmaimonides.net/secure_donation_bequests.html
The family will hold a celebration of Janny's life at a later date.
