Rudolf came to the Netherland with a Kindertransport on March 30th, 1939. First he stayed at the quarantine facility in Rotterdam, after which he was moved to the Achterklooster in Rotterdam, the orphanage in Gouda, quarantine Zeeburg in Amsterdam, Oostelijke Handelskade 12 in Amsterdam. Finally he was able to move in with his father in May 1940. His parents were divorced. His mother was Else Weiss, born on May 12th, 1888 in Breslau.
