Biography

About Femmie Léon-Montanhes and her daughter Geertruida Jacoba Léon.

Femmie Montanhes, born 27 April 1910, was a daughter of Elisabeth Lea Root and Isaac Montanhes. She was married 7 February 1934 in Amsterdam to a hairdresser from Den Haag, Jacques Leonhard Léon, who was born 2 December 1904 in Den Haag as son of David Léon and Geertrui Jacoba van der Haak. On 7 June 1935 Femmie and Jacques had a daughter, named Geertrui Jacoba.

The Léon family went living in the Hofmeyerstraat 9 3rd floor in Amsterdam-East. However, on 25 January 1940 Jacques Leonhard Léon passed away there at the age of 36 years. Femmie Leon-Montanhes and her daughter Geertrui Jacoba were both registered in Westerbork on 23 July 1942 and put on transport to Auschwitz on 31 July. On arrival there on 2 August both were immediately kmurdered.
