Biography

About Samuel Ossendrijver, his wife Anna Frank and their four children.

Samuel Ossendrijver, diamond polisher and vendor of drygoods, was a son of Andries Ossendrijver and Hanna de Vries. He married 2 June 1915 in Amsterdam Anna Frank, a daughter of Andries Frank and Rachel de Vries. The couple had four children, namely Andries, Rachel, Henny and Sarina. They were all killed during the Shoah.

After his weddint to Anna Frank, they lived in the Van Ostadestraat 297 3rd floor-right, but in 1925 they moved to Celebesstraat 106 and in 1928 to Reitzstraat 34 1st floor. After still three other removals, the family left in 1938 for Kleine Drift 20 in Hilversum but returned in 1939 again to Amsterdam, where they came living at Uithoornstraat 34 groundfloor.

Their son Andries most likely was already arrested in 1941 during one of the four raids in Amsterdam and deported to Mauthausen. There he eventually lost his life 10 July 1942.

Their daughters Rachel and Henny, both working as day-servant maids, were caught during the raids of July 1942 in Amsterdam and taken to Westerbork. Both were registered there between 20 and 22 July and from there put on transport to Auschwitz on 27 July. On arrival there on 30 July, they were not killed in the gaschambers but selected to perform hard labor, in- or outside the camp. It is not exactly known, on which date and where Rachel and Henny Ossendrijver have lost their lives, due to exhaustion and bad conditions or still sent to the gaschambers. Therefore, the Dutch Ministery of Justice ordered the municipality of Amsterdam after the war to draw up certificates of death for Rachel and Henny Ossendrijver in which is established that both have lost their lives in Auschwitz on 30 September 1942.

Samuel Ossendrijver, his wife Anna Frank and daughter Sarina, were arrested and taken to Westerbork during the big raid of 20 July 1942 where they ended up in barrack 57. On 25 May they were put on transport to Sobibor and on arrival there on 28 May, they have been killed immediately.
