Biography

The fate of Zadok van de Giessen.

Zadok van de Giessen, the still unmarried son of Salomon van de Giessen and Hanna Noot, was cigar maker by trade and lived still with his parents at Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. Just as his father Salomon, he became victim of the big raids of 2 and 3 October 1942 in Amsterdam; he was arrested 2 October and immediately sent to Westerbork. On arrival in Auschwitz on 5 October 1942, his father Salomon van de Giessen was immediately killed.

Zadok van de Giessen however was selected for forced labor. Recently, in 2016 a Polish researcher has found out that Zadok van de Giessen had been employed in the "Reichsautobahnlager Annaberg" at Upper Silezia, where he lost his life 5 December 1942.

Because previously it was not clear when and where Zadok van de Giessen had lost his life, the official Dutch date for Zadok van de Giessen's death is here maintained as stated after the war by the Dutch Department of Justice.
