About Max Behretz

Max Behretz was until the middle of 1940 president of the SDAP (Social Democratic Labourer's Party) in Roermond. He married in 1937. In 1938 he moved to Maasniel, where he lived on the address Broekhin 152B. From 5 May 1939 he lived in Roermond again on the addres Godsweerdersingel 48.

During the war, Max Behretz was arrested for his work for the Dutch underground. At first he was brought to Cologne, but later he was sent to Berlin where he arrived in july 1942. In September or October 1942 he wrote to his relatives to be assuming he was to be executed. On 24 September 1942 Max Behretz was executed at the Berlin Plötzensee jail.
