Jesaija Schelvis was a son of Mozes Schelvis and Marianne Wurms. He married in Amsterdam on 28 April 1915 to Flora Pachter, daughter of Levie Pachter and Esther Sarlui. However, Flora lived at another address in Amsterdam.
The couple had three children: Marianne who was married to Abraham Sarlui, Moses and Esther, who was married to Hendrik Visser. Esther and her husband survived the Holocaust.
