Joseph Salomon was a son of Jacobus Salomon and Saartje van Hachgenberg, a family with in total thirteen children, and of whom he self, Maurits, Rebecca, Margaretha and Catherina have died during he Holocaust.
He married 6 July 1921 in Rotterdam to Hendrika Izaaks, a daughter of Salomon Izaaks and Duifje Wessel.
