In the first month of the war David Lutraan died. He was 79 years old. In 1942 Rachel was registered as widow.
Three children of Rachel Kesing lived outside the parental home: Goedman, Izak and Lena Lutraan.

The house of David and Izak Lutraan internally consisted out of three parts, but only had two doors on the outside. Henriëtte and Vrouwtje Lutraan lived in the middle part of the house. On the right of the house there was the butcher's shop, as far as is known the oldest of Raalte. Other butchers had their cattle slaughtered there as well. During the sabbath the Lutraan family asked children-next-door, living behind the butcher's shop, to turn on the light.
The sabbath was also often celebrated by making walks through the village, visiting other Jewish families.
