Abraham Roos, son of Mozes Abraham Roos and Anna van Leer, was a butcher like his father at the Jewish export butcher Van der Sluis on the Ezingerweg in Meppel. He often drove one of the company vans to deliver meat to customers. On 4 July 1941 he married Mietje (known as Mimi) Blok. The couple moved to 54 Papaverstraat in Meppel.
In August 1942 Abraham Roos was summoned to the Linde labour camp in the municipality of Zuidwolde. He was subsequently transferred to Westerbork, where his wife Mietje arrived as well on 3 October 1942.
Letters remain that Abraham and Mietje wrote from Westerbork. On 13 April 1943 Mietje wrote to her family in Drachten:
“Things are difficult here, but we are managing, and we will be very happy if we can stay here for the time being. We hope we can. The situation here is indescribable, misery and more misery. But we are young and have our work, so we'll be all right.”
On 18 May 1943 Abraham and his wife Mietje were deported to Sobibor.
