Bernhard is een zoon van Arnold Adler en Minna Meriam Amsberg. Hij trouwde 18 december 1902 met Catherine Rensburg (26 jaar), dochter van Jacques Rensburg en Rosalia Hanau.

Bernhard Adler and Catharina Rensburg had two sons. One of them, Richard, died before the war of meningitis at the age of sixteen. The other son survived the war.
