Otto Ewald Rosenthal was a son of Moses Rosenthal and Auguste Jacobs. He migrated with his cousin Heinrich to Chile, but returned in 1937 because of homesickness.

Otto Ewald en zijn broer Wilhelm waren samen eigenaar van een lunchroom / banketbakkerij in de Lange Bisschopstraat. Wilhelm woonde eerder in Deventer dan zijn broer en had de zaak overgenomen van de gebroeders Massmann; de zaak stond goed bekend.
Eind augustus 1942 moesten Otto Ewald en Wilhelm naar het werkkamp Hummelo.

Otto Ewald Rosenthal was murdered in January 1945 in Łączki, commune Głuchołazy (Ziegenhals) during the death march (presumably from Blechhammer to Gross Rosen).
