For years, the family tried to verify what happened to Samuel after he was caught at Den Dolder. This letter was finally received in Aug. 1984, confirming the dates of his imprisonment in Westerbork, deportation and murder in Auschwitz.
The letter verifies with stark finality that Samuel Wijler was imprisoned in Westerbork on Nov. 30, 1943, deported by train to Auschwitz on Jan.25, 1944, and murdered in Auschwitz on arrival on Jan. 28, 1944.
He was murdered in Auschwitz on Jan. 28, 1944, the day he arrived there by train from Westerbork.
The date posted on Joodsmonument and the stolpersteine in front of his home (Paul Krugerstr.4, Lochem) are incorrect.
