Biography

About Eva van Gelder, her spouse Jacob de Levie and her children Evalien and Johanna.

Eva van Gelder was a daughter of Benjamin van Gelder and Johanna Mogendorff. She married in Zwolle on 26 May 1931 Jacob de Levie, born in Ommen on 9 March 1906 as son of Gompel de Levie and Eva Leman. The couple had two children, namely Evaline in 1932 and Johanna in 1935. All were killed in the Shoah.

The De Levie family lived in Ommen and they were taken from their residence Kerkplein 6 to Westerborfk between 3 and 5 October 1942. On 9 October they were all deported to Auschwitz where, on arrival on 12 October 1942, Eva de Levie-van Gelder and her two daughters Evalien and Johanna immediately were killed. Her husband however was obviously selected for labor in or outside the camp. He lost his life eventually on 31 January 1943.
