About Soesman Waas

The Waas family was aware of the dangers of deportation. Early in the war they went into hiding near Soest. After a certain time (they ran out of money) they had to return to Amsterdam. Soesman managed to find a hiding place in Baarn for his youngest child. The parents and their daughter Sara were arrested and brought to Westerbork. There Soesman got a job that provided him with a sperre. The family was eventually deported with the last train to Theresienstadt. After a short stay they were sent to Auschwitz. Soesman Waas died during the death marches in somewhere mid Europe.
