Barend de Hond married Sientje Beem on 17 March 1914. The couple had four children. Their eldest daughter, Roossien, died a few days after she was born. Their other children, Klaartje, Jacob and David Ezechiël, died in the war. Barend, Sientje and David Ezechiël lived at Beekstraat 27 in Elburg. Barend de Hond was a dealer in second-hand goods and a market vendor.
