Raphael Brander was a son of Isaac Brander and Marianne van Bever. He married 5 July 1911 in Amsterdam to Duifje Visser, daughter of Levie Visser and Klaartje Lap.
Besides his brothers and sister, who also have been killed in the Holocaust, Nathan, Elias, Barend and Elisabeth it were his sister-in-law Sophie Schelvis who was married to his brother Hartog who died in 1923 and his brother-in-law Joseph Ritmeester, widower of his sister Aaltje Brander, who died in january 1940
