About Johanna van Engel-Grünewald

Johanna Grünewald was the 3rd spouse of Daniël van Engel, who passed away in Goor on 11 September 1909, in the age of 52 years. From this marriage, four children have been born: Julia, who died before the war, Heintje, who died in 1899, only 1 year old, Emma, who survived the war and Isidor, who has been killed during the Holocaust.
From the previous marriages of Daniël van Engel, three half-brothers of Isidor have been born: Salomon van Engel, Mozes Aron van Engel and Nathan van Engel, who have been killed too during the Holocaust.

Johanna Grünewald was the widow of Daniël van Engel, who had died in 1909. The couple had two children, who both survived the war, and a son Isidor. Daniël van Engel was a butcher. The family lived on the Grotestraat in Goor. Johanna van Engel-Grünewald was in hiding in Holten. She was betrayed. Isidor van Engel (known as Ies) was a butcher like his father. He was engaged. During the massive raid in Twente on 10 September 1941, he was picked up and deported to Mauthausen.
