About Joseph Winkel

Joseph Winkel was a lawyer in Rotterdam from 1905 onwards. His office was on the Wijnhaven. Joseph was married with two children. During the war Joseph Winkel was in hiding. He was picked up in Zwijndrecht and transported to Westerbork by way of Haagsche Veer police station in Rotterdam. Because he had been in hiding, he was classified as a criminal offender at Westerbork and deported on the last train to Auschwitz on 3 September 1944. When Auschwitz was evacuated, Joseph Winkel was shot dead.
