Biography

About Henri Frank

Henri Frank married Stijntje den Hartog, the daughter of Abraham den Hartog and Leentje den Hartog, in May 1937. The huppa was at the home of the bride in Oostendam following the civil ceremony at the town hall in Ridderkerk that morning.

When the summons for so-called work expansion in Germany started to arrive, Henri Frank transferred to the Israëlitisch Ziekenhuis [Jewish Hospital] on the Schietbaanlaan in Rotterdam, where his sister-in-law Elisabeth den Hartog was the director. She registered him as an assistant male nurse.

In November 1942 the SD raided the Israëlitisch Ziekenhuis on the suspicion that the Jewish resistance worker Sara van Gigh was hiding there. Henri Frank was arrested and sent to Camp Westerbork. On 16 February Henri Frank and his wife Stijntje were deported to Auschwitz from Westerbork.
