David Valensa and Esther Schuitevoerder had a child in 1941. The child’s uncle abandoned her in the hope that she would be adopted in 1943, and a resistance fighter nicknamed ‘De Ooievaar’ (‘the Stork’) took her to a foster home in Haarlemmermeer. In this way the child survived the war.
