Jozef Levie and his family

Jozef (known as Jopie) Levie was a son of Benjamin Levie and Grietje Kan. He had an odds-and-ends shop called 'De Grote Bazar' on Eerste Hoofdstraat in Meppel. He also had a fancy goods stall at the market.
Jopie Levie was married to Marianne Finsi. Nine children were born to the couple, two of whom died in the first year of life.
In August 1942, Jopie Levie was ordered to report for work at Orvelte labour camp. Having been allowed home on leave on 2 October, he was arrested together with his wife and six of their children that same day.
