David Sanders and his family

David Sanders and his wife Clara Keizer were in hiding at a widow's house in the Eerste Helmersstraat in Amsterdam. Clara suffered from asthma and therefore visited a physiotherapist. David accompanied his wife. A member of the Kolonne Henneicke specialised in recognising Jews in the street arrested the couple at the end of August 1943. They were taken to the Henneicke office at the Noorder Amstellaan.

Clara and David had three children who were hidden in different places: Marie Lena (named 'Marleentje') and Elbert Daan (named 'Bertje') with the J.I. Hollebrands family at the Hugo de Grootstraat 70 Sliedrecht and Eline with a farmer in Barchem. The member of the Kolonne Henneicke who arrested the parents, demanded to know where the children were hiding. They refused to say, but then gave in after heavy physical abuse.
