Marcus van Stratum was married to Rachel Mok. The couple had four children: Hartog, Salamon, Saartje and Mina. The two eldest children lived at a different address in 1941. Saartje was mentally disabled. Rachel van Stratum-Mok was being cared for at the Apeldoornse Bos. According to survivors, Marcus van Stratum fought with the police when he was arrested at his home. He was then reportedly knocked down the stairs to the floor below.
