Josua Jakob Sanders was the son of Jacob Sanders and Sipora Verdoner. In 1902 he got married to Saartje Grootkerk, daughter of Abraham Grootkerk and Rosette Eliazer. The couple had ten children: Abraham Josua, Meijer, Sipora, Rosette, Sientje, Henriette, Mozes Josua and three children who survived the war.
